This hand-painted reproduction nose art panel replicates "Flir Cat", an F-14B Tomcat piloted by Captain Dale "Snort" Snodgrass (USN Ret.). Captain Snodgrass flew this particular F-14B on occasion while testing the new Forward Looking Infrared Radar (FLIR) system. The nose art reflects this achievement and although painted on both sides of the nose, its name is in different colors for unknown reasons.
Captain Snodgrass is a legend in the aviation community and is credited with flying the most hours in an F-14 (over 4,800 hrs and 1,200 plus carrier arrested landings). He was CO of VF-33 (CVW-17) and led his squadron into Desert Storm. The movie "TOP GUN" was loosly base on "Snort" as he served as a consultant to the film.
Made with aircraft aluminum, the hand painted panel measures 30" x 19" and is easily hangable on most walls with built in loops on the rear of the panel. This makes a great conversation piece and provides the perfect accent to any room.
