This faithful hand-painted reproduction nose art panel of the B-25 Mitchell "Ruptured Duck" (SN 40-2261) was created by renowned aviation artist Gary Velasco. On April 18, 1942, this Mitchell (piloted by Lt. Ted W. Lawson) and fifteen others took off from the pitching deck of the American aircraft carrier USS Hornet to strike back at Japan for the Pearl Harbor attack. Led by renowned aviator Jimmy Doolittle, the Mitchells succeeded in hitting their targets and then dispersed to whatever landfall each aircraft could make (most opted for China, while one headed for Russia). This particular aircraft went down in China. There is a comprehensive account of the preparations for, execution of, and aftermath of the Doolittle raid at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doolittle_Raid
Made with aircraft aluminum, the hand painted panel measures 18.5 x 40" and is easily hangable on most walls with built in loops on the rear of the panel. This makes a great conversation piece and provides the perfect accent to any room.
PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THIS PANEL BEING CUSTOM MADE AND HAND PAINTED, IT COULD TAKE 2 TO 4 WEEKS FROM THE DATE OF YOUR ORDER UNTIL YOU RECEIVE IT. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT US.
